The Camp
The Shadow is located on Pulau Buasak, a private island in the Northern Mentawai Islands. Known as Playgrounds, this has the highest concentration of quality waves in the area.
Due to its location, The Shadow is closer to the less crowded waves but can easily get to the area with the most famous breaks! The camp has a range of shared lodge rooms and private bungalows. All are complimented by expert local guides who know every part of the reef, jungle, and Mentawai people.
The camp is surrounded by 360 degrees of white sand beaches, reefs, coconut trees, crystal waters, tropical jungle, and a long list of world-class waves. What are you waiting for?
Waves at The Shadow Mentawai
The Shadow sits in the ‘Playgrounds’ region in Northern Mentawai. They have access to 24+ waves by boat, so there are waves for all levels at all times of the year! Steep & hollow barrels, rippable walls, fun-sized waves, there is something for everyone to get stoked on. There are 3 waves on the doorstep of the camp, which are usually the quietest in the area.
The Peak season of May – October brings the largest swells, favoring the advanced to expert surfers, with the rest of the year serving up consistent head-high to overhead surf! Even in the peak season, intermediate-friendly surf can be found. Standouts in the region are Kandui (world-class left), Rifles (Indo’s most perfect/fickle right), Hideaways (goofy footers dream), and many more! The expert surf guides will always get you into waves suitable for your level.
Accommodation
The Shadow Mentawai has accommodations to suit solo travelers, couples, groups, and families! The camp has 2 Triple Lodge rooms and a Double Lodge room for those looking to share. These have 4 shared bathrooms with hot water.
There are then 3 more bungalows for couples, friends, or families! All rooms are air-conditioned and have everything that you need for a comfortable stay.
Close to the rooms, there is the restaurant, a yoga chalet a mini sunset bungalow, beach showers, the jetty, 5 boats ready to go, and a big private island just for you. You can check available rooms here!
The Cuisine
When at The Shadow Mentawai all of your meals are taken care of, including snacks and drinks whilst on the boat! The camp offers a range of Indonesian, Asian, and Western food!

Activities
The Mentawai Islands have a lot more to offer than mind-blowing barrels! The Shadow Mentawai can arrange for trips to stay with the Mentawai tribes, who still manage to live in a commercial world.
Yoga
The Shadow Mentwai offers a daily included Yoga Session (subject to teacher availability), to help loosen up your muscles and get you ready to get back in the water!
Getting there
After arriving in Padang, you would have to spend your first night in a hotel and catch the Mentawai Fast Ferry the next morning. The ferry departs on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday and takes around 4 hours to get to Siberut, where The Shadow Mentawai staff will pick you up to bring you to the resort. Alternatively, for larger groups, private speed boat transfers are available to the resort!
