Waves at Pousada Maravilha
The surfers’ mecca of Fernando de Noronha gets the main source of swell not from the South like most of Brazil, but from the North Atlantic lows that provide Europe with its surf. Plenty of 2-12ft NW-N swells hit the island between Nov and April and it is never under 2ft during Dec-Feb with swells lasting for 5-6 days.
Like Hawaii, the island is the summit of a huge underwater volcano, rising 4.3km from the ocean floor. The surrounding deep water and lack of continental shelf allow the swells to hit with unimpeded speed and power. It also causes the waves to jack up in size.
The famous wave Cacimba do Padre, home of the pro contest, appears as a picturesque tropical beach with perfect clean waves in crystal clear water, against the backdrop of the gnarled volcanic rock brothers. This is the most consistent spot on the island and the swell can be doubled in size here, reaching heights of up to 15ft offering huge, cavernous barrels!

Pousada Maravilha is a boutique hotel with just 8 rooms of three categories: Deluxe Apartment, Studio Apartment and Bungalow.
